Well, with the Huskers finally producing in most facets of the game, I decided it’s time to start grading these kids without a “new coach learning curve.”
Running Game:
A+ - Hello Marlon Lucky…nice to finally see you. Granted the O-line hasn’t been the best to run behind, but as a Senior you’re supposed to be able to run through adversary. This week Marlon looked better than co-first stringer Roy Helu. In fact, both Lucky and second stringer Quentin Castille had their best weeks of this young season; though Helu is certainly the future of this rushing attack.
Maybe the biggest surprise from the rushing game was the neo-classic Nebraska look (circa 1995). Joey ran 5 times for 69 yards and Touchdown. It should also be noted that Ganz became only the third player in Nebraska history to Run, Throw and Catch for a TD in the same game and the first one since Eric Crouch did it against Cal in 1999, the other was Johnny Rogers. On another note, Crouch and Rogers both won the Heisman Trophy.
Passing Game:
B+ - Marlon Lucky might have the best passer rating in Nebraska history before his career is over. So far Lucky is 3 for 5 with 3 touchdowns…Holy Crap. Ganz looked good as well, much better than last week in his decision making, and showed he was willing to check down and dump it off to the flats or the running back rather than try to put a square peg through a round hole.
Defense:
B+ - Again, the reason I didn’t grade them higher... the first drive of the game, and the fact that our D had some gaping holes in the d-line that let this normally pass happy offense run threw it like USC did last year.
The Defensive Backs looked worlds better than they have in the past 2 games and in fact the past few years. With 2 interceptions Nebraska now has 5 on the season. All last year, they had 8. I guess playing the ball and getting your head around has its advantages, huh Elmassian? Idiot. The only thing I can complain about is the Mother F-ing Pass Interferences. Jesus H Christ, knock it off.
The D-line looked good in the second half. But hell, the first half of play I doubt they could’ve gotten pressure on a High School Quarterback. But, the second half they came out with pressure, ran some stunts with Stienkuler and Potter and got 3 sacks, 2 consecutively. Let’s hope this continues against the better o-lines in the Big XII.
