Cupcakes No More!

Under the previous regime, Nebraska got fat off of the amount of cupcakes it ate during the Football season's out of conference schedule. One could argue that this left the team unprepared and unappreciated when it got into it's "always tough" conference games.

It appears under Athletic Director Tom Osborne that trend has changed. The Nebraska AD has recently scheduled games with Fresno State, currently ranked in the AP top 25 and the up and coming (much like Nebraska) Miami Hurricanes.

Nebraska is slated to play the Bulldogs of Fresno in 2011 in Lincoln, 2014 in Fresno and again in 2016 in Lincoln again. Make no mistake; this team under Pat Hill is no longer a “look past” game. This team beat a disappointing Rutgers team and will play #10 Wisconsin this weekend. Nebraska is also set to face a resurging Miami team that, much like Nebraska has had its lumps over the past few years under different coaches. Now Randy Shannon takes over and so far, the Canes have looked impressive against the Flaaaareeeda Gators and Charleston Southern. At 5-5 overall, Miami has the last win in the storied series in 2001 when they beat the Huskers in route to a National Championship.

FYI: The ‘Skers have also scheduled Washington, Southern Miss., UCLA, and Tennessee through the 2017 season. As the old cliché says, beating these teams would just be “icing on the cupcake.”
