So...if the other team is not on the field, they can't score!

Uh oh, did the Huskers find a new way to win the game? Control the clock baby! Eat up as much time as you possibly can. This apparently is the new offensive scheme of the now 4-3 Cornhuskers. In the past two games, Nebraska has had possession of the ball nearly twice as long as the opposition (Texas Tech and ISU). Twice as long! Shawn Watson has found a way to utilize all that is Joe Ganz and his decision making abilities. As it clearly showed in Saturday's game against the Cyclones, Joe Ganz's best attributes besides the smart throws, were his supporting cast. In fact Ganz threw to eight, count 'em, eight different receivers in the first half. His ability to make all the correct checks is earning my praise in calling Joe "Ganztastic" once again.

And then there is the defense. Congrats boys, congrats. I almost got a little emotional as Zach Potter showed glimpses of the Blackshirts of the 90's earning his best sack of his career against Austen Arnaud. (Side note: Did anyone else think that the commentators called Arnaud "Hard On" at any point in the game, or do I need to revisit my therapist and open up a whole new chapter on things wrong with me?) When Potter broke loose from the blindside and demolished Arnaud I shed a lonely tear. And this time is wasn't because of the trash I saw outside. The boys on D held ISU to a mere 218 total yards. With most of those yards coming from that damn 60+ yard run on the second play of the second half. Now I don't want to get to carried away there. It was Iowa State for crying out loud. But anytime a team can put together a complete game like that, it gives a little boost of confidence to the players as well as the loyal fans.

And now lets talk about putting some Stick 'Em to the gloves of the boys in Scarlet and Cream. I counted 678 fumbles on Saturday. The Huskers only lost three, so good job on that. The main positive is that the Cyclones did not capitalize on any of the turnovers during the game. And NU even got a turnover! In fact they got two! Woo! I was really pleased with Menelik Holt's fumble at the end of the first half though. That was because it gave me one of the biggest laughs of the season watching the ISU linebacker have the third longest play on the day for ISU with his amazing, athletic, graceful fumble recovery. Good for you buddy. Notch one up for the highlight reel! He looked like a cross between Corey Haim in "Lucas" and "The Waterboy." This weekend the Huskers go up against the Baylor Bears who are actually surprising the hell out of a lot of people. Their quarterback has yet to throw an interception. That works out well for the Huskers because they don't like making interceptions according to the stats so HA! Take that Art Briles! Prediction: Baylor shows up on time.

P.S. I love Nate Swift.
